The Road Back to Myself
Independence doesn’t mean isolation; sometimes it’s the most grounding way to reconnect with who you are.
Earlier this week, I drove five hours to see my boyfriend. It turned out to be the longest solo drive I’ve ever done, and the entire trip carried a steady mix of nerves and anticipation.
I wasn’t nervous to see him by any means, but I was slightly on edge about the route in terms of the narrow lanes, construction, deer crossings, and massive oil field trucks.
There’s a quiet kind of growth that comes from traveling alone; no distractions, just you, your thoughts, and the reality of navigating everything on your own terms. I love not having to entertain anyone else’s energy except my own sometimes.
It’s a reminder that independence doesn’t mean isolation; sometimes it’s the most grounding way to reconnect with who you are.
Seeing my boyfriend once a month is rough, but it’s a great reminder that independence and connection can coexist.
Sometimes, the drive toward someone else ends up being a journey back to yourself.
When was the last time you took a solo trip, and what did it teach you?
Thank goodness for cruise control, snacks, Starbucks, and entertaining podcasts that turn hours into minutes.

ooh I love traveling solo.. for me it feels so free. A good podcast or book on tape is so essential!
This is very encouraging and oh so true. I've felt surges of independence that have taught me so much (including how to fix so much 😅) while my husband has been away. Thank you for this!
